A Secret to Keeping Your Workamper Hires

A Secret to Keeping Your Workamper Hires

We believe the best thing you can do to help insure stick-ability of your Workamper hires is to stay in constant communication with them - at least monthly, if not weekly from hire date to start date.

Don't over-think it.  It's easy to come up with reasons to send them emails on a regular basis. Send your Workampers...

  • weather info
  • details about what's in the local area
  • where is the closest... (hospital, pharmacy, grocery store, etc)
  • get them connected with their fellow Workampers who will be there at the same time
  • more details about the operation
  • testimonials/advice from your previous Workampers
  • Etc. Etc. Etc.!

Even if you already told them something - it can't hurt to say it again!

Mail them some coupons/discount cards/information packets for local businesses (your Chamber of Commerce may already have a welcome packet you could use).  Be sure they have the best driving directions to your location. Check in to see if they've thought of any new questions.  Call to wish them a happy birthday or holiday.  And on and on.

Keep yourselves in the forefront of their mind. Try to connect them to you a bit more personally - by telling stories of getting your operation ready to go for the upcoming season, some favorite stories from previous years, sharing a story from the holidays, testimonials from customers, etc. - so they see you/your fellow staff as people and not just "another employer".

Do you have a Facebook page?  If so, you're already going to that site to manage that. You could create a private Group just for your Workampers. Once you hire a Workamper, send a request to them on Facebook to join your Group. And this can be another avenue to share info with them, get them interacting with you and your staff, and see how much they will interact back.  A lack of participation could signal something.

Staying in the forefront of your future Workampers' minds will hopefully help keep the excitement for the new opportunity alive, and also more quickly alert you to any changes the Workamper may have encountered.

As the traits of different generations are realized, we and Employers will have to adapt. We can't just keep doing the same things as we always have and expect the same results.
