    Workamper Campfire - Jan 2013
    PREVIOUSLY RECORDED
    Presented by:
Steve Anderson - WKN President & Dream Engineer

    01/29/2013
Workampers and Workamper Dreamers discuss questions about Workamping around the campfire.

    Questions discussed:
    • Would like to know if you can do this at several locations, or do you need to stay in one location for several months?
    • Is is possible to Workamp part-time? i.e. only Tues, Wed, Thurs.
    • Are there ways to determine if a job is less physically demanding?
    • Are there jobs which are part-time with FHU and pay a wage?
    • Do you get Canadians asking about Workamping in the U.S.?
    • Can you bring your kids?
    • If we need $1000/month, and a job says that they'll pay for any hours worked over our space rent, how do we figure how much we should be asking/looking for?
    • When we trade services (work) for space and FHU, is this considered income? Or is it considered barter and not taxed?
    • Looking for info on mail forwarding groups/organizations in South Dakota. Lots of info on Texas' Escapees, but is there comparable companies in South Dakota?
    • How can I email my AA Resume to employers?
    • Have you ever heard of self-employment tax?
    • When you do not have a home base (we rented our house), how does the program affect your tax base? What deductions could be used for taxes?
    • Could you please discuss portable income sources for people who are living on the road. Are there companies that operate solely with such employees? What sort of independent income streams are people engaged in?
    • Do you recommend signing a Work Agreement with an Employer?
    • I live in Canada and am looking into RVing and living in the USA but don't know how to get started into learning about Workamping. Any suggestions?

    Workamper Campfire - Dec 2012
    PREVIOUSLY RECORDED
    Presented by:
Steve Anderson - WKN President & Dream Engineer

    12/20/2012
Workampers and Workamper Dreamers discuss questions about Workamping around the campfire.

    Questions discussed:
    • Considering becoming a future Workamper. We need to learn and understand the industry more so we can better explore our options.
    • I am excited and hesitant to start this venue in an RV as a single woman. I would like to know if there are many other women out there traveling?
    • Are all Workampers "pooled" in the same area? We hear this is done and basically no one has any privacy as they are on top of each other.
    • How do most Workampers react to the 20 hours for campsite before any wages?
    • Are Workampers covered by Workmens Comp in case of injury?
    • How do you go about finding brokers for medical insurance who will work for you, not the insurance companies?
    • I'd like to find the section to get my resume verified. Also, how do I get verified with no employer history? Since I've been self-employed.
    • I want to be successful with my first Workamper assignment. Do I want pay for all hours worked then pay for a site, or take a free site offset with hours worked?
    • How can I switch my membership to receiving Workamper News magazine in the mail and not just online?
    • Do you still have the tool where Workampers can share comments about an employer?

    Workamper Campfire - Nov 2012
    PREVIOUSLY RECORDED
    Presented by:
Steve Anderson - WKN President & Dream Engineer

    11/29/2012
Workampers and Workamper Dreamers discuss questions about Workamping around the campfire.

    Questions discussed:
    • I am a campground manager interested in learning how Workampers may be utilized by our organization?
    • When applying for a Workamper job, do Employers have negative views of popup campers?
    • What do people do about clothes to wear for Workamping? I'm wondering because I'm not going to have a lot of room for clothes and wonder what type of clothes make the best use of that space?
    • What are the pros and cons of gas vs diesel engines in a motorhome?
    • Do places where Workampers work have people come around to fill their LP tanks so they don't have to leave camp and go fill it up then come back and set up again?
    • I would like info on obtaining health insurance.
    • Is there an average time slot that a Workamper would stay at any given campground - i.e. a month, 3 months, etc.?
    • How many hours does a Workamper typically work weekly?
    • Last spring I did my first stint as a camp host solo. The 24/7 aspect was the thing I didn't like. I am considering a retail store job in a National Park. Maybe I could experience the surroundings more. Any comments?
    • On a resume, is it better to be specific on a location and hours you wish to work, or would you tag all?
    • What jobs are available for camping and working with horses? Or any kind of job at a campground that has horse camping?
    • How do I deal with payroll taxes when Workamping in another state that's not my home base?
    • When working in a National Park for an Employer such as Yellowstone General Stores, are state taxes withheld for the state the park is located in or in the home state of the Employer?
    • I've decided to "retire" April 1 instead of later, so I don't have a year to plan. Can you suggest an accelerated training plan for this Dreamer?
    • Since i have recently had to update my resume at workamper.com I have noticed i get an email saying that my reusme was viewed by employers. Do employers get a notification when a Workamper resume has been updated?

    Questions discussed:
    • How do we find health insurance that covers full-timers?
    • Can I be a single Workamper?
    • We hope to retire in a couple years. In the meantime, what classes or skills would you learn or train in, like Spanish or CDL, to help you be a well-rounded Workamper?
    • How much competition is there for advertised jobs?
    • How do I find a list of jobs that offer salary and site for work? Also a list for winter employment.
    • Where is the best place to find shorter-term opportunities measured in weeks rather than months or seasons?
    • Is there a way to search or highlight a job for a single person (not couple)?
    • It seems like Florida is more limited on jobs than Arizona or Texas. Why is that?
    • Are NASCAR related jobs obtained via NASCAR or the individual track?
    • Looking for more info on Southern Cross and Amazon.
    • When buying an RV, should we seek an RV in a state with no sales tax? Do you still have to pay your state sales tax if you purchase elsewhere?
    • What do you do about the employer that told you the job would be 40 hours a week, but it didn't turn out that way.
    • Will there be a future webinar on resume building and writing for those of us who cannot participate in the Rendezvous?
    • Is it too late to get a job this year (season)?
    • Brand new to Workamping. What the 3 most important things/info some of the Workampers think that I should know?
    • I'm a computer professional - mostly web design and development - how can I find temporary or part-time computer positions around the country?

Fortunately there are a few things that owners can do to make sure that their RVs and valuables are safe and secure. In addition, whether traveling for business or pleasure, a traveler must be on alert for any situation that an Identity Thief may try to take advantage of the opportunity. Unfortunately travelers cannot trust everyone they meet on the road or at temporary stops with any personal information. 5) The most critical mind-set shift you need to make before attempting to develop your Personal Marketing Strategy. Don't even bother with all of the steps I'm going to teach you if you're not willing to do this!
