Yellowstone National Park is one of the world's largest playgrounds. An angler's paradise, Yellowstone National Park offers lakes, rivers and streams stocked with a wide range of fish species. From serene lakes to explosive geysers, the calming song of a bird to the bugle of an elk, there are thousands of sights worth seeing in Yellowstone National Park. Hiking in Yellowstone National Park means more than 1,100 miles of hiking trails, perfect for day hikes to extended backcountry excursions. Stop by a ranger station or visitor station for detailed Yellowstone hiking information as trail availability changes with seasons, trail conditions, bear activities and other unforeseen circumstances. When it comes to summertime activities the West Yellowstone area is an outdoor enthusiast's dream come true. The long summer days provide visitors unlimited access to explore and play in the splendor of the high country. You can fish blue ribbon streams, hike in pristine wilderness, experience real western horseback riding, go whitewater rafting or mountain bike on hundreds of miles of single track and forest service roads. Hebgen Lake with its miles and miles of shoreline offers camping, boating, canoeing and some of the best fishing around. And just beyond is Earthquake Lake formed the night in 1959 that a 7.5 quake rocked the Madison Valley and a mountain fell. Still further along are the intriguing old gold mining towns of Virginia and Nevada Cities. Maybe best of all, you can just relax and enjoy Montana's legendary hospitality surrounded by scenery that will make you wish you had more time to spend here.
